Talk Story, known in Hawaii as mo'olelo, is the tradition of personally sharing important stories to preserve them for future generations. Surfing is full of colorful, charismatic and creative characters whose contributions to the world span far beyond the waves.

Surf Talk Story, held seasonally on Thursday nights (8p) at Turtle Bay Resort's Surfer The Bar, brings surfing's legends and their tall but true tales directly to you, as they are told to host Rocky Canon.

Mauli Ola Vice President is wise like the owl and respectfully nicknamed "The Captain" of the 808 area code. Kala was the star of the reality TV series "The 808" on FuelTV and can also be seen on the hit crime-drama "Hawaii Five 0." This Hawaiian native is a guardian of the famed 7 Miracle Mile on the North Shore of Oahu, teaching generations of surfers respect for the ocean and Hawaiian culture. VIDEO COMING SOON.

As the native Hawaiian navigator of Hawai‘i’s traditional double-hull sailing canoe Hokule‘a, and President of the Polynesian Voyaging Society, Nainoa is a living conduit of Hawaiian culture and traditional wayfinding skills. Thompson has received numerous awards, including the Unsung Hero of Compassion, awarded to him in 2001 by His Holiness XIV Dalai Lama on behalf of the organization Wisdom in Action; and the Native Hawaiian Education Association’s Manomano Ka ‘Ike (Depth and Breadth of Knowledge) Educator of the Year Award.

Sunny Garcia is a professional surfer from Westside of Oahu, Hawaii, who is often regarded as a fierce competitor with the record of most WQS event wins. Some of his top accomplishments are winning the 2000 ASP WCT World Champion, having the record of most WQS event wins (22), six titles of Triple Crown of Surfing, and he is the second surfer to win 1 million dollars! He retired in 2005 but made a comeback in 2008. Today, he aspires to win the ASP World Tour.

When six teenage boys came together as a skateboarding team in the ’80s, they reinvented not only their sport but themselves, too, as they evolved from insecure outsiders to the most influential athletes in their field. Rodney Mullen, a vital member of the Bones Brigade team set off on a path that would redefine the way a skateboard could be ridden. He went on to found World Industries skateboards, and was 2002 Skater of the Year. Today he is known as the “Godfather of Street Skating”.
