Aloha. It’s a simple enough word to those not acquainted with its deeper meaning. Sure, it’s a greeting that doubles as hello and goodbye, but it’s also so much more. In Hawaii, it’s an essence of what we strive to be. We want to live with aloha, to pass on the aloha spirit, to let aloha consume us. We believe that aloha makes the world a better place.
So what, exactly, is aloha? For something that’s become such an integral part of the Hawaiian culture, it’s hard to find a clear-cut definition of aloha, but you know it when you see it.
This time next week, you say to yourself, you’ll be on the North Shore, knee deep in the vacation you’ve been dreaming about for years. But then, it suddenly hits you. What do you pack for a trip to Hawaii these days? The North Shore is all about being outdoors. Whether it’s sliding across your first wave, adventuring through a hidden trail, or free diving, the odds are you’re going to be spending plenty of time under the sun. While it’s never a bad idea to bring something nice to wear out to a dinner at Lei Leis or Pa’akai, for the most part, your evening wear can stay at home.
