Sway Your Hips and Get Fit Polynesian Style

It’s time to sway your hips, tone your muscles and break a sweat, Hawaiian style. If you are ready to get out of your comfort zone, learn a little hula and burn calories, this workout is for you!

For those of you who don’t want to take a break from your fitness regime while on vacation, Turtle Bay has a state-of-the-art gym, gorgeous running trails and live fitness classes. One class in particular, Hiva Fitness, involves some hula.

Penny Toilolo, a performer at the famous Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) and a dance teacher to many children on Oahu’s North Shore, created the fun workout. The class uses authentic Polynesian dance moves to get your heart pumping. Participants sway their hips, isolate their cores and work their arms and legs, all to dynamic polynesian drum beats. The constant motion and resistance makes for a great cardiovascular and total body workout in just 60 minutes.

“Whether you are a beginner or advanced dancer, this is a high, upbeat, yet graceful way to make yourself comfortable in your own skin,” says Nalu Kinetic Spa Director Avigale Lagrass.

What can participants expect?
Participants can expect a high energy and fun workout that will challenge your core and lower body.

What makes this class so unique compared to other workout classes? This class brings an authentic cultural mix of music and dance movements from the Polynesian islands. You get a cardio, strength and core workout.

How many times is Hiva Fitness offered a week? Hiva Fitness is offered twice a week. Wednesdays 4:30 p.m. and Fridays 8:15 a.m. (schedule subject to change)

How much does it cost?
$15 for hotel guests, $20 for non-guests.
