North Shore Town Highlight: Kahuku

If you are looking for delicious local food trucks, adventure and beaches, then Kahuku is the place to visit on Oahu’s North Shore. The quaint town is the closest one to Turtle Bay Resort,  about a five minute drive heading east.

Here's what you can expect when you visit Kahuku.

Kahuku was actually home to one of the Oahu’s first sugar plantations and refineries from 1893 to 1971. The sugar industry was the community’s main source of income. The sugar mill closed in November 1971. Turtle Bay Resort opened her doors in May 1972, giving local residents jobs close to home. Till this day there are generations of North Shore residents still at Turtle Bay who have been at the resort since the beginning.

Hundreds Complete Ragnar Trail Oahu

It was a weekend of sore muscles, stinky feet and sweaty clothes, but the memories from the first-ever Ragnar Trail Oahu race for live on forever.

April 21-22, more than a thousand runners laced up their sneakers and hit Turtle Bay’s miles of scenic yet challenging trails. Some even travelled from the mainland and neighbor islands to run.

Teams of 4-8 runners worked together to conquer more than 120 miles. The course was divided into three different loops ranging from four to more than six miles each.

“It was a life changing experience for sure,” said Arianne Cameros, who drove down from Nanakuli on Oahu’s west side for the event.

“The weather was terrible,” reported runner Anthony Ching of Ka’a’awa. “It was fun, but I honestly wanted to die at some points,” he chuckled.
