Family-friendly events will include the 35th-Annual Da Hui Paddle Race and Expo

NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI (June 7, 2013) – Turtle Bay Resort, the only destination resort on Oahu’s fabled North Shore, is hosting a Fourth of July celebration of epic proportions with an all-day lineup of free family-friendly activities, entertainment, and fireworks.

The resort’s Fourth of July celebration is open to the public and will include food booths; a Primo Island Lager beer garden; prize giveaways; family activities including Hawaiian hōlua sledding, traditional Hawaiian board carving, and a water slide; and live music from John Cruz, Typical Hawaiians, Kapena and more. Wrap up the day with a fireworks show and an after party at Turtle Bay’s Surfer, The Bar.

Grab a paddle and join the paddleboard and stand up paddle fun on the Da Hui Paddle Race long course (7 miles), starting at the resort, or the short course (4 miles), starting at Sunset Beach, with both finishing at Waimea Bay. It is one of he world’s largest paddleboard events with more than 500 participants expected to take part. Meet the pros and demo the latest gear while interacting with some of the industry’s top brands at the stand-up paddleboard expo on Turtle Bay’s West Lawn.

WHAT: Turtle Bay Resort Fourth of July Celebration

WHEN: Thursday, July 4, 2013

TIME: 10 a.m. Da Hui Paddle Race start for long course; 9:45 a.m. for pro division

           10:30 a.m. Da Hui Paddle Race start at Sunset Beach for short course

           11 a.m.- 8 p.m. Stand-up paddleboard expo; entertainment, booths, and


           2 p.m.- 8 p.m. Live music

           1 p.m. Da Hui Paddle Race awards ceremony

           8 p.m. Fireworks; blankets and low-back chairs welcome; no coolers

           9 p.m. After party at Surfer, The Bar

WHERE: All activities at Turtle Bay Resort, 57-091 Kamehameha Highway, Kahuku, Hawaii, unless otherwise noted.

PRICE: Activities and the expo are free and open to the public. Locally sourced cuisine and a variety of beverages will be available for purchase from select vendors.

RACE: Mail-in pre-registration forms are available online at, and will be accepted through June 29, 2013; online pre-registration will be available through the evening of July 3, 2013. All pre-registrants will receive a limited-edition Da Hui hat and other goodies. Same-day registration will be available at Turtle Bay Resort (beach side fronting Ola’s Restaurant or the North side of the hotel), or Sunset Beach race start locations, beginning at 7 a.m.
