“More Story than Store” Turtle Bay Resort Opens Epic New Coastal Lifestyle Retail Experiences

“More Story than Store”

Turtle Bay Resort Opens Epic New Coastal Lifestyle Retail Experiences

NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI (May 16, 2013) – Two new coastal lifestyle retail experiences have been unveiled at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu's fabled North Shore as part of the multi-million dollar renovation to the existing hotel: The North Shore WaterShed and Oakley at Turtle Bay. Both stores will celebrate an official grand opening on May 21, 2013.

North Shore WaterShed: "More story than store," the WaterShed draws its inspiration from the North Shore waterman's accessory shed -- a place of pride in Hawaii's coastal communities where every waterman and woman house their "tools" for maximizing their adventures. The WaterShed features all locally designed and crafted custom fixtures, many cleverly created out of repurposed local woods and materials.

The WaterShed will sell apparel for men, women and youth, as well as select shoe styles, accessories and gifts. Featured brands include Quicksilver Waterman Collection, L-Space and Miko Swimwear, Vans, Volcom, RVCA, Olu Kai, Maui Jim, Surfer The Bar, and an exclusive line of Turtle Bay surf wear. It will also be home to a permanent events desk that will serve as a venue for guests and locals alike to connect to coastal activities and special events.

Music has always gone hand-in-hand with Hawaii's coastal living, and in a special collaboration with C.F. Martin & Co. (, makers of the finest instruments in the world for 180 years, The WaterShed will feature a display of Martin guitars, ukuleles and Martin-branded products. A History of Ukulele wall display will also be featured in the lobby that will include a concierge service of Martin guitars and ukuleles available for Turtle Bay guests to take lessons within the resort’s lobby.

“What goes together better with surfing than music?” said Amani Duncan, vice president brand marketing at C.F. Martin & Co. “Martin Guitar is a lifestyle brand and the integration into the overall lifestyle experience at Turtle Bay, unquestionably Hawaii’s leading surf resort, is a key initiative for our brand in 2013. We are thrilled to be able to showcase our world-class guitars, strings, ukuleles and branded products in this premiere vacation destination.”

The North Shore WaterShed will share a new outdoor events deck with the newly renovated Hans Hedemann Surf School. The deck boasts an uninterrupted view overlooking the resort's pool, surf bay and sunset coastline. Expect plenty of music, fun and memories to be created here!

Other exciting news includes the opening of the North Shore WaterShed Lab by GoPro. "The Lab" will offer a full range of GoPro cameras and accessories and will assist guests in becoming the stars of their own adventures via its staff-supported edit and upload suite. The Lab is located at the pool level, by the elevators.

Oakley at Turtle Bay: Oakley at Turtle Bay will offer the most extensive range of the brand's eyewear collections outside of Honolulu for both men and women. The store will also feature a broad range of men's surf and lifestyle and women's training apparel, including an exclusive resort line of t-shirts created for Turtle Bay.

Oakley has a long history on the property, existing for many years as a featured brand at Turtle Bay Golf. This exclusive concept store represents an expansion beyond what golf currently offers.

The announcement of Oakley at Turtle Bay comes after a hugely successful winter on the North Shore for Oakley's surf team, led by 2012 Vans Triple Crown champion Sebastian Zietz. Oakley's riders took out four of the five major awards up for grabs at the Vans Triple Crown.

The principle values behind Oakley are innovative premium products wrapped in art. The store is located adjacent to the new North Shore Kula Grille, at the lobby level.

Additional Resort News: As part of the Turtle Bay Resort’s ongoing multi-million dollar renovation, the resort opened the North Shore Kula Grille in early April, which takes the place of the former Palm Terrace/Leonardo’s restaurant. The redesigned restaurant features natural décor in the spirit of its new farm-to-table breakfast and dinner menus, with wood accents and the cool blues and greens of the nearby ocean and farmland, as well as a new bar.

Turtle Bay Resort also recently launched a new way for guests to experience and learn about Oahu’s fabled North Shore: The North Shore Guides Club. Providing access to the inaccessible, the North Shore Guides Club is designed to enhance connections to the North Shore through the insider knowledge of an experienced team of select resort employees. The club will help guests see the North Shore through the eyes of a local, creating authentic memories that will last a lifetime.

About Turtle Bay: There’s one North Shore on Oahu. And there’s one resort on it. Ideal for watermen, wave watchers or waders, Turtle Bay is at the epicenter of set after set of activities, events and adventures. Complete with the finest accommodations and amenities suited for the entire family, Turtle Bay is where the “7-Mile Miracle” begins and the lineup is endless.
