Turtle Bay Offers Oahu’s Only Coastline Designated for Full-Scale Weddings

NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI (September 18, 2012) – More than 100,000 brides and grooms visit Hawaii each year to get married, nearly three quarters of them on one of Oahu’s approximately 125 breath-taking beaches. But there is only one place on the island that brings both vows and sand together for full-scale weddings: Turtle Bay on Oahu’s Fabled North Shore.

The State of Hawaii has designated Turtle Bay’s private coastline as the only area on Oahu where full-scale ceremonies are allowed on the beach, including music; chairs and tables; and decorations such as flowers and arches – elements that are restricted on all other beaches due to State permitting restrictions that went into effect in 2008. The resort’s uniquely situated five miles of pristine beaches provide complete privacy, allowing guests to fully experience the romantic allure of the North Shore, which for years has drawn visitors from around the world.

“Turtle Bay’s exclusive stretch of coastline allows guests to have the wedding of their dreams right on the beach without compromising on important personal touches, such as intimacy, décor, music or comfort,” said Turtle Bay Wedding Specialist Pura Stephen-Martinez. “We work with guests to ensure a seamless planning process, including assisting with everything from permitting to the finest food and beverage selection on the North Shore.”

Turtle Bay hosts more than 350 weddings each year on its expansive oceanfront lawns and beaches, and is the only hotel in the state that can guarantee couples a private beach wedding. The resort is also ranked among Hawaii’s Top Ten Honeymoon Hotels by The Knot’s Wedding Channel, due to the spectacular ocean views from each of the 443 guest rooms and 42 beach cottages; lushly landscaped pools; championship golf courses; and activities such as horseback riding, surfing lessons and shopping.

“We are known for our ability to have the both the ceremony and reception outdoors overlooking our beautiful ocean – who would come to Hawaii and go into a ballroom?” said Turtle Bay Wedding Specialist Sheri Chang. “Outdoor weddings have endless possibilities. We have had carriages deliver the bride and pick up the couple after the ceremony; a groom arrive with his father and brothers by helicopter – customizations like arriving on horseback, or even stand-up paddle boarding are what make our weddings so personal.”

Natalie Parker, who recently married her husband Evan on the beach at Turtle Bay Resort, said she chose the resort as the site for her wedding after growing up hearing about the gorgeous beaches and Pacific Ocean views found only on Oahu’s North Shore.

“No one can deny the magic and allure of the ocean,” said Parker, whose wedding festivities also included a celebration with family and friends among flowers and lights on the lawn of the 18th hole of Turtle Bay Resort’s ocean-side golf course. “Rain or shine, we wanted to be married in front of the roar of the waves, walk barefoot in the sand, and breathe in the sea air as we exchanged our vows. We will forever feel a special bond with everyone there as well as each other. Our friends are still talking about the beauty and fun.”

Hawaii wedding photographer Bianca Gomes Grant said it is this fabled North Shore atmosphere of authentic Hawaii that has drawn brides and grooms to the resort for decades.

“Turtle Bay Resort’s secluded location provides each couple with a beach all their own, against a pristine oceanfront backdrop – not to mention some of the island’s most beautiful sunsets,” she said. The beach itself is the ultimate décor, but the unique ability at the resort to bring in a touch of floral and provide chairs for guests is a great way to add personal touches.”
