Turtle Bay Puts New Twist on the Hawaii Classic of Stand-Up Paddle Boarding

Balance Meets Board with Stand-Up Paddle Yoga and Other Expert-Led Experiences

NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI (Nov. 20, 2013) – Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s Fabled North Shore is taking the sport of stand-up paddle boarding to a new level with the launch of experiences designed for everyone from first-timers to skilled watermen. With roots in Hawaii, stand-up paddle boarding has caught a wave of worldwide popularity, with Turtle Bay and Oahu’s North Shore serving as the center of the sport’s premier competition and innovation.

Experience stand-up paddle boarding year-round at Turtle Bay with an epic lineup of activities:

·         Stand-Up Paddle Yoga: This new class offered through Turtle Bay’s Nalu Kinetic Spa combines world-class yoga instruction for beginners to seasoned yogis at the North Shore’s stunning Kawela Bay. One-hour sessions with a licensed yoga instructor and surf guides are held Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m.; $40 per person includes equipment rental and transportation to and from Turtle Bay’s Hans Hedemann Surf Center. For reservations, contact Nalu Kinetic Spa at (808) 447-6868 or nalu@turtlebayresort.com.

·         Sea It to Believe It: The expert surf team at the Hans Hedemann Surf Center offers free daily demonstrations year-round at Kuilima Cove from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. These 15-minute sessions include a 5-minute introduction on the beach followed by a 10-minute water lesson in the cove’s calm waters. Rent a board on the beach or sign up for a guided adventure to Kawela Bay, perfectly situated for beginners learning to balance and paddle, or even try out small waves.

·         Board Room Access: With nearly 50 stand-up paddle boards to choose from, the Hans Hedemann Surf Center has the right board for every guest, available for rent daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for flat water, downwind or wave riding.

·         Learn It, Love It: Hans Hedemann Surf Center guides offer private (one-on-one instruction), semi-private (perfect for couples) and group (a great value with a surf instructor for every three to four students) stand-up paddle lessons for all experience levels at the on-site Kuilima Cove and nearby Kawela Bay. Learn from the best, surrounded by the picturesque scenery, historical landmarks and wildlife of the North Shore, with all equipment included.

·         A Custom Fit: Groups, take note: Multi-day programs, private coaching and camps are designed and led by the experts of the North Shore Guides Club surf team. Get access to the inaccessible with the help of world-renowned watermen. For reservations, call (808) 293-6000 or e-mail info@northshorewatershed.com.

  • Meet the Legends: Turtle Bay is home to The Waterman League, which organizes the Stand Up World Series, the sport’s premier competitive event lineup. Visit the on-site headquarters or Turtle Bay’s new Surfer, The Bar, for a chance to rub elbows with legends of the sport like resort ambassador Kai Lenny, repeat winner of the Stand Up World Series Finals at Turtle Bay.

To reserve a lesson or rental at the Hans Hedemann Surf Center, stop by from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily or call (808) 447-6755. For a complete list of surf activities, photos and video, visit turtlebaysurf.com.

Turtle Bay is putting the final touches on a multi-million-dollar renovation.
