 Turtle Bay Resort to Host Kainalu Jr. Waterman Program from December 26-30 


NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI (Dec. 12, 2013) – Turtle Bay Resort is inviting children ages 10-18 years old to experience the Kainalu Jr. Waterman Program, an innovative five-day gathering at the resort featuring expert-led ocean safety training and experiential ocean science education classes.


Join coastal scientist and waterman Dolan Eversole and Ian “The Surf Professor” Masterson for ocean skills training in the areas of ocean safety, swimming, bodysurfing, snorkeling, outrigger canoe paddling and sailing, surfing, stand-up paddling, and paddleboarding. Excursions include a tour of North Shore surf sites and a trip to Waimea Valley. The program focuses on core skills and concepts, including: Risk assessment; ocean science and surf forecasting; personal character and confidence development; personal health and nutrition; coastal environmental issues; and Hawaiian ocean history and culture.



WHAT:              Kainalu Jr. Waterman Program


WHEN:             8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 26, to Monday, Dec. 30, 2013


WHERE:           Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu’s Fabled North Shore, with field trips to Waimea Valley and North Shore beaches.


PRICE:             $1,000 for five-day program or $250 per day; each session will have a maximum of 25 students; fees include all transportation, lunches and snacks, and Kainalu hat and rash guard; reservations required by calling (808) 293-6000. Visit turtlebaysurf.com/camps for more.


 


EXPERIENCE:  All skill levels are welcome, but participants must be proficient swimmers and comfortable in the ocean. This program aims to challenge each participant and instill confidence in their ocean ability. Participants must pass a 200-yard swim test on the first day.
