NORTH SHORE, OAHU, HI (March 29, 2012) – From the wildly popular romantic comedy “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” to the campy “Baywatch Reunion”, Turtle Bay Resort’s lobby has been featured in more movies and TV shows than many actors. Now, the lobby is ready for its next role as “the” gathering place on the North Shore since recently completing a $2 million lobby renovation. The update included a refreshed porte-cochere and bell desk, a revamped registration desk, and the addition of a brand new lounge.
Upon arrival, locals and globals are now greeted by a refurbished bell desk and porte cochere featuring new modern furnishings and custom designed area rugs. The focal point of this space is a textured wave wall with specially carved, locally sourced, wood surfboards. The wall was inspired by the ripples or waves of sand that form along the resort’s coastline during periods of strong trade winds and was hand-built by highly skilled artisans.
The registration desk has been redesigned to include a designated VIP check-in area as well as concierge services. The custom wave wall is again present as an accent behind the desk. The once vanilla space is now dynamic and sophisticated with warm woods and natural stones, vibrant colors and textures in the furnishings and dramatic, complementary lighting.
With celebrities, local luminaries and professional surfers frequently “dropping in” to the surfside resort, the concept behind the lobby update was to create a hip North Shore destination with a nod to both the relaxed waterman culture and the host Hawaiian culture. The new lobby lounge was designed to be a welcoming space where guests can become cast in their own roles as part of the enlivened lobby experience.
Special features of the lounge include comfortable living room-like furniture in small groupings, but with flexibility to accommodate both small and large parties. The bar itself has a distinctive hammered wood front, marble countertop and custom pendant lighting above. Overall, the bar was designed to provide staff and guests with maximum flexibility during all hours of operation.
In the morning, the lobby lounge offers coffee and pastries as well as grab and go items like pre-packaged sandwiches and drinks that hotel guests can take with them on their day’s excursion exploring Oahu’s fabled North Shore. The new Holoholo Menu, served from 10 am – 9 pm, offers fire-grilled open-faced sandwiches made daily with fresh baked artisan breads. The menu’s salads contain seasonal produce grown organically on the North Shore.
Specialty food items and an extensive handcrafted cocktail menu make the lobby lounge the place to see and be seen in the afternoons and evenings. Early drink favorites include the Pupukea Lychee Martini, Turtle Bay’s signature Mai Tai and the Skinny Lilikoi Chi Chi made with all the flavor, half the calories and Hawaiian Coconut Vodka that is distilled right on Oahu.
With a new face and new energy Turtle Bay Resort’s new lobby is ready for a its close-up Mr. Demille!
