Hollywood loves the North Shore. And what’s not to love? Beautiful beaches: check. Perfect weather: check. Heck, with so many television and movies shooting in the islands, there’s even a local film industry in place to support larger crews when the big cameras are ready to roll. Plain and simple, it’s a paradise and it’s easy to see why so many movies are filmed here. And while films like Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 50 First Dates, Soul Surfer and Pearl Harbor have all shot here, a new comedy, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, is the latest flick to feature the North Shore.
Starring Zac Efron, Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, and Adam Devine (who also hosted a stand-up comedy show for Comedy Central at Turtle Bay recently) Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates sees two brothers (Efron and Devine) place an ad online to find dates for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. And that’s where things take a wild twist as the brothers link up with and are “out-hustled” by two hard-partying ladies (Kendrick and Plaza).
Judging by the trailer, the film looks to be hilarious and it was a blast. But what happened to the cast when they weren’t filming? It turns out, Devine and and Efron relished their time on the island by trekking through the mountains and swimming with sharks. Under the watchful eye of Ocean Ramsey, both Efron and Devine got up close and personal with Galapagos and Tiger Sharks, a feat that caught the eye of Jimmy Fallon, who interviewed Efron about his unforgettable swim. And oh yeah, did we mention that he actually rode the shark?
It was clear from the glee on their faces that Efron and Devine had truly fallen in love with the North Shore and all that it has to offer. Needless to say, we look forward to welcoming back the cast and crew soon. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to the release of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates on July 8.
