The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational

When:
Repeats every day
From: 8:00am to 5:00pm - 5:00pm
Where:
Waimea Bay

The Eddie Aikau Foundation presents the 2019 The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational with an all-star line-up and new format.

For the 34th annual event, 32 Invitees and 18 Alternates will be invited including nine females. For the first time ever, seven legends will take the Bay in the first heat of the day and be eligible for the Hawaiian Airlines Best Wave of the Day and 250,000 HawaiianMiles.

During the three-month holding period from December 1, 2019 through February 29, 2020, if waves reach heights of 20-feet (Hawaiian style), The Eddie will go for these big wave riders. When The Eddie last ran in 2016, it undeniably became the biggest event in competitive surfing.  Over 1.2 million fans watched the live stream from over 200 countries around the world – making it the biggest event in the history of surfing.

EDDIE TIPS:
1. TRAFFIC WILL BE LIKE A PARKING LOT:
Last time the Eddie ran, years ago, one of our employees reports the drive from his home in Waialua to Waimea Bay (a normal 10-minute cruise) took him five hours. Thousands of spectators are expected to flood Waimea Bay to catch the event of the year and possibly the decade (the last Eddie ran in 2016).

We suggest you arrive at the event early & carpool there or rent bicycles, mopeds or motorcycles from The Outpost.

Bike all day rental: $75 Book now!

2CHECKING-IN ON THE DAY OF THE EDDIE? TAKE THIS ROUTE TO TURTLE BAY:
Opt for the scenic drive along the windward coast from the Honolulu International Airport to Turtle Bay, you'll have the ocean to your right side and majestic Ko'olau Mountains to your left.  Take the H3 heading towards Kaneohe. You will also pass landmarks including the crouching lion, China Man's Hat, Kahana Valley & The Polynesian Cultural Center.

4. EDDIE FACTS:
The contest starts at 8am but spectators will be there hours before the start to ensure parking and a spot on the beach.
