Three Reasons Why Spring Reigns Supreme on the North Shore

It’s been said that winter on the North Shore can be a proving ground. A place for the fearless among us to test their mettle against some of the world’s most infamous and dangerous waves. But what about the rest of us? What if, now don’t judge us, we don’t want to test our mettle? What if the idea of Second Reef Pipe makes us weak in the knees? San Clemente’s Chris Connolly is a happy man, and for plenty good reason: the 49-year-old father of two recently took the 2014 Fantasy Surfer season win and earned himself an expense-paid trip to the Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Oahu for next winter’s Pipe Masters. We called up Chris to congratulate him and talk shop about that winning Fantasy Surfer strategy of his.

Zak Noyle's Favorite Photos

Famed surf photographer Zak Noyle makes his living by being one of the most fearless lensman in the business. As a water photographer who specailzes in shooting the most dangerous waves in the world, Noyle has to not only position himself between mountains of cascading water and razor-edged reef, but he also needs to get as close to the surfer as humanly possible. While rife with hazard, Noyle wouldn't have it any other. In the images below, we're highlighting some of Noyle's amazing work.
