Countdown to Roy's Beach House

Posted on Thu, 2016/06/23 - 12:36pm by Jessica Gellert

ROY'S BEACH HOUSE OPENS AUGUST THIRD!

Located right on the breathtaking Bay View Beach, the restaurant will be a casual yet upscale alternative for resort guests, residents and visitors.

The concept and design for the new 140-seat open-air restaurant are a reflection of Roy’s love for white sandy beaches and the ocean. He has fond memories of potluck gatherings on the beach with a variety of his family’s favorite dishes- a memory he hopes to create for you at the Beach House.

The main dining area will be host to elegant teak love seats and lounge chairs dispersed between more traditional dining furniture to make you feel like you are in a friend’s charming beach house living room.  The restaurant will also feature 50-seat lanai area for private parties and ocean front gatherings. And, Roy’s Take Out window will serve a lighter menu through the day for beach-goers.

“It’s my first take-out ever. I’m excited about that. It will be a fun place to be and fun place to hang out,” explained Roy.

The highly anticipated eatery opens in August 2016, with Chef Gordon Hopkins leading the kitchen.  Born and raised on Oahu, Hopkins brings his years of experience abroad, his respect for the land and culture, and his understanding of bold island flavors to the forefront of Roy’s Beach House Hawaii inspired cuisine.

After leading the kitchen at Michel’s at the Colony Surf, opening Dolly Parton’s Dockside Plantation and most recently, overseeing Roy’s mainland venture as Director of Chefs, Yamaguchi’s original chef/partner will be responsible for running the lunch and dinner kitchen operation of the 180 seat indoor and outdoor open air beachside restaurant.

Since opening the flagship Roy’s restaurant in Hawaii Kai with Yamaguchi, Hopkins has traveled the world and participated in world class events like the Food & Wine Classic in Aspen, World Gourmet Festival in St. Moritz, and the Cannes Film Festival in France.  He has cooked side-by-side with some of the most highly regarded chefs in the world from legendary chef Paul Bocuse to celebrity chef and restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa.

I told my husband and daughter that there would be a Roy's there when we stay there during part of our 2 week vacation in June of 2017 and they were as excited as I was. Roy's has been our favorite restaurant since 2005 and whenever we're in a city with a location, we go (Orlando, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Chicago). This will be my first time staying at the Turtle Bay since 1979 when I was 7 years old, back when it was known as the Hyatt Kuilima. We are REALLY looking forward to our stay there...now with a Roys, we'll never want to leave!

So excited to hear about an August 2016 opening of Roy's Beach House!! After sailing from French Polynesia to Hawaii, living aboard our sloop at the Ala Wai, we frequented Roy's Hawaii Kai which at that time was the ONLY Roy's. We've been in and out of Hawaii for twenty years now working and playing, 15 consecutive years attending Merrie Monarch in Hilo and ALWAYS a visit to Roy's Waikoloa, so we want to plan a trip around the opening of Roy's Beach House. Yep, we travel for food (and sun, diving, snorkeling, and windsurfing in Hawaii!). Look forward to the updates about the opening date!!!

My husband and I had our very first dinner at Roy's Ko'olina for our 24 th wedding anniversary last year 2015 and we enjoyed our dinner and the people that served us were amazing. They were very knowledgable explaining the menu. Then we came back again a month later with our youngest son and girlfriend for our second time and we ordered the combo special including dessert and it was an amazing night and dinner indeed. We love Turtle Bay and I actually reserved a room for my niece that lives in the mainland for their honeymoon. My husband and I actually stayed there at the cottage fior one of our wedding anniversaries. Adding an amazing restaurant like Roy's is really a smart move to be a part of Turtle Bay family. Mahalo Roy's!

As a turtle bay guest I thought one of the highlights of the trip would be dining at Roy's having had delicious meals at other locations. As beautiful as the setting is the food was nothing outstanding and service was deplorable. Wasted our time having lunch so cancelled any plans for dinner later in the week.
